There are a number of different reasons that you may be considering a psychological evaluation.
You might want some diagnostic clarification or a second opinion about your diagnosis. Maybe you feel like you have hit a plateau in therapy and want recommendations about how to move forward. Or you may notice that you are having problems at work, school, or in your relationships and want to know what might be contributing to that. Psychological testing can be helpful in uncovering answers about the nature and possible causes of these particular difficulties. Perhaps more importantly, testing can help guide you in identifying effective interventions to target your specific needs in light of the information that is uncovered.
At Tosa Psychological Services, we offer comprehensive and targeted psychological evaluations. Each evaluation uses objective and projective measures to produce a thorough appraisal with detailed treatment recommendations and referrals. We recognize your individuality and will tailor our assessments to you based on your psychosocial, medical, and psychiatric history.
Testing focuses on the specific, relevant referral questions that need to be investigated. Psychological evaluations can provide you with a wealth of information about yourself and how you interact with the world. From this assessment, you will gain a more in-depth understanding of your motivations, emotional and cognitive functioning, and gain useful recommendations that support your wellbeing.
This type of testing can be helpful for you if you’re currently in therapy or are interested in starting therapy soon.
At Tosa Psych, we begin every evaluation process with a client consultation. This will include a thorough interview in which we will ask questions about your background history. In most cases, and always with minors, we will collaborate with family members and other applicable sources that can provide us with additional information about your past history and current level of functioning.
The information provided to us during the consultation will help our team to best assess the appropriate battery of tests for you. The length of the administrative phase is dependent on your specific needs as well as the complexity of your referral question. Our philosophy is that the most meaningful results are yielded during in-person testing. This allows us the chance to interact with and support you throughout the testing experience and will allow you to ask questions as they arise. Tosa Psych will provide you with additional information about scheduling at the time of the referral.
Once you complete the assessments, the evaluator will review and interpret information gathered through the consultation as well as the series of tests. During the scoring and interpretation phase, the evaluator may reach out to gain collateral information when clinically relevant.
Arguably the most important aspect of this process: the results! Our evaluator will schedule an hour long feedback session with you to discuss their clinical findings and provide you with practical recommendations that you can choose to implement into your life. During this session, you will be given a copy of the psychological report that can be shared with any pertinent parties including family, medical providers, therapists, schools, and/or work.
If after the feedback session you have additional questions or need help connecting to various referrals, we are happy to make ourselves available to you.
